Hello fellow LBJ volunteers. It’s time for another post, this time about one-on-one visits with the men in jail.
We have a lot of requests for one-on-one visits with the men at LBJ, so many that we can’t possibly serve them all. Currently, there is only one volunteer at LBJ doing one-on-one visits, and two more who will start. All these volunteers also do chapel services.
This post isn’t a call for help with one-on-one visits. You are all doing a lot, and we don’t want you to get burned out on this ministry. Rather, this is just information sharing. Maybe you’re just curious, or maybe you are interested in doing some one-on-one counseling, or maybe this is of no interest to you at all. One thing you may find useful, if nothing else, is to know which men on your floor are requesting one-on-one services. This will help you to know which men also want chapel services.
Our volunteer on Level 1, Mike P., has been doing one-on-one visits for a while, and he kindly wrote up a description of how to do the visits. I edited his email a little bit, and put it on the website here: https://www.youvisitedmedphx.com/one-on-one-catholic-counseling-suggestions/. You may find it interesting.
Thanks for all you do at LBJ!
