We get request for one-on-one counseling at Watkins Jail, and currently we aren’t able to fulfill all of them. The guys really appreciate getting these visits, and they are rewarding for us volunteers. Why do they want a one-on-one visit? There are many reasons. They may be in a pod that doesn’t have Catholic services. Or they may want to talk more in depth about the faith, and their problems, than they can at the larger service.
Some of you may already be doing one-on-one visits at Watkins. If so, thank you! Please let me know, via text or email, after each visit, and I will log it, and it will be included in the Volunteer statistics (here). I noticed some tank orders that requested a Catholic counselor indicate ‘completed’. I don’t know if it was completed by one of you, or by a different denomination. The Chaplain requests that volunteers only visit for tank orders that indicate their denomination, but I don’t think that volunteers from other denominations necessarily follow this rule (i.e. they may visit guys who request a Catholic counselor).
If you think it’s something that you may want to consider, I added a page to this website describing how to do it. It’s under the ‘General Info’ menu item, pick the one called ‘One-on-one Catholic counseling at Watkins Jail’. Or, for convenience, just click here.
